Glimmers will be playing Saturday on the Strangelove stage

Back in 1987, Mo & Benoelie were DJing for Ghent's youth every weekend, playing all sorts of music which was loved in those days. Back then they already reasoned that they should never shut themselves off from any style of music, that every blend, every genre, every movement was theirs for the taking.

At first, they were being turned on by the strange and experimental sounds coming from the city's Boccaccio club. Over there, 12-inches were purposefully pitched down and extended, the result being a deep, metronomic, groove-laden experience, which later would be labelled as Belgian New Beat.

Also back then, they made their first trip to Ibiza. Seeing Alfredo playing early electronic stuff mixed with all sorts of pop and funk at Amnesia, Mo & Benoelie really got hooked. Always open to new musical revolutions, they adapted all these sounds and experiences and took them to their new 300 capacity residency called the Fifty Five where they were playing every Saturday marathon sessions from 10pm till 8am.

A couple of years later, when there was only house music being played in clubs, Mo & Benoelie were being seen as the 'outsiders' in the Belgian club scene. They played 'other' stuff in between. They were not afraid of mixing stuff like The Residents, or The Cramps, or even campy disco inbetween the 'popular' 4/4 house & techno music. Soon they started to develop a loyal following, which would later result in a new scene in Ghent's diverse but booming nightlife.

New parties were being thrown at different locations, and all promoters were trying to find the most original one, because in Ghent there were no clubs at all. You had 'Free The Funk' in an old glass factory, 'Pablo

Eskimo Bar' in an old underwear factory, 'Belmondo' in the museum of contemporary arts, 'Pop Life' in the city's oldest concerthall..

Back in 1995, the legendary R & S Records released 'Free The Funk Compilation 1', an unmixed selection of mostly instrumental, mid tempo electronic funk inspired by the 'Free The Funk' parties.. R & S asked for more, and in total five volumes have been made and one side project called 'Straight From Vinyl' which got released early 2001.

Around that same time, the Pablo Eskimo Bar parties were huge in Belgium. N.E.W.S. got so excited they asked Mo & Benoelie to program and mix the first Eskimo compilation: 'The Past Presents The Future, The Future Presents The Past' (2000). Their amalgamation of new beat funk dub house techno party hip hop electro new wave edgy post-punk disco rock and pop was a revelation to those bored of linear mix albums.

Eskimo Recordings was born, and on that label the Glimmers started to release several other projects and mix albums.. Amongst them, 'Serie Noire : Dark Pop and New Beat' (2002) was probably the most innovative one they ever did so far. It ended as number two in that years list of Best Compilations in Jockey Slut magazine (R.I.P.).

In 2002 they accepted a resident night at Culture Club, Belgium's latest high fashionable club. Playing every Saturday, again all night long, they builded a new loyal following, and two compilations were made. 'Culture Club Culture Volume One' and 'Culture Club Culture Volume Two'.

In January 2003, Johnno Burgess (Bugged Out!, Jockey Slut) decided to give the guys a break and invited them for a DJ slot at one of his Bugged Out! parties @ The End in London. He loved it so much that he advised Decked Out Agency in London to add them to their roster. Since then, they
changed their names to 'The Glimmer Twins' and started playing all over the world...

In 2004 they shortened their name into 'The Glimmers' for various reasons and released their highly acclaimed 'Remixed, Re-edited and F*cked Up' album for Eskimo Recordings.. DJ Kicks (2005) in the famous series for !K7 Records followed, they mixed 'Fabric Live 31' (2006) in the amazing series runned by London's top night club Fabric and more recently the final chapter in the classic Eskimo series: 'Eskimo Volume V' (2007)

Meanwhile remixes have been made for a.o. Bloc Party, The Killers, New Order, Roxy Music, Isolee, Phoenix, Munk, Pop Del Arte, Snow Patrol, Calvin Harris, Shirley Bassey, Junkie XL and the Chemical Brothers.

They have been working in the studio together with other artists and producers, and a lot of fresh material is made. Some of those collaborations are being released on their own imprint called Diskimo Records in vinyl format only, as a limited series of 12"s. Other stuff has been made intentionally for an 'artist album'.

And now The Glimmers are releasing that album, which is called 'Gee Gee Fazzi'. 20 tracks have been selected, and spread over two CD's. Those CD's will be released separately. The album contains collaborations with Princess Superstar, Freeform Five, Lindstrom & Prins Thomas, Optimo Espacio, Kenneth Bager, Ray Mang, Foxylane, Baby G, CJ Bolland, In Flagranti and many more..

As being totally independent now, not signed to any record label, the Glimmers have decided to do something different with that album. They thought that it was time to give something back to the clubbers that always came to party and supported them for all those years.

In collaboration with the promoters, venues and the events where they have been playing during all those years, they made it possible to give away the album for free to everyone who comes to party. This album will only be distributed there where the Glimmers are playing, and just for that one
night. It will not be available in any record shop, or via the internet.

'Gee Gee Fazzi Part I' will be distributed during the first half of 2008, and 'Gee Gee Fazzi Part II' will be distributed during the second half of 2008.
