Signed to ED BANGER RECORDS, DJ Mehdi dropped album LUCKY BOY in October 2006 to meet international praise and success. His singles (and videos) 'I AM SOMEBODY', ‘LUCKY BOY’ and ‘SIGNATUNE-Thomas Bangalter Edit’ were on heavy rotation everywhere Hip-Hop and Dance Music were welcomed to meet up. The album has been described as '21st century Breakdancing music', and featured CHROMEO, graffiti artist FAFI, artwork by SO-ME, and remixes by SWITCH, SURKIN, OUTLINES, KENNY DOPE and THOMAS BANGALTER from Daft Punk. LUCKY BOY was voted one of the TOP 50 albums of 2006 in numerous magazines ans websites.
Born, and raised in Paris, DJ Mehdi has been producing major french Hip-hop artists since 1995 while making great noise (and platinum albums) with his bands Ideal J and 113, remixing various electronic acts and composing soundtracks for many french and international films. His resumé mentions collabos with the largest scope, from club gangstas CASSIUS, VERSATILE, or SUPER DISCOUNT, to globe-trotters CSS, ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI or NEW YOUNG PONY CLUB plus legends like FUTURA2000 or RYUICHI SAKAMOTO and MC SOLAAR.
This year, Mehdi also went from resident DJ at Paris' legendary PULP club and french Radio FG to touring all around the world alone or with his team-mates from the ED BANGER label (Busy P, Justice, Uffie&Feadz and Sebastian). His sets are often hailed as ‘Everything black party music’, ‘Sex, Drums and Beats&Blues’, or ‘Kraftwerk were African’. He appeared #10 in MIXMAG’s list of TOP 20 DJ’s of 2007.
